Mary Allene Jones

(1922-2004)

Mary Allene Ingram Jones, 81, of Dallas, great-granddaughter of William Sachse and of Daniel Herring passed away April 30, 2004. Author of "Sachse Remembered, 1840-1940," a historical account of life in the town of Sachse, Mary Allene was a member of the Dallas County Pioneer

Association, Daughters of the Republic of Texas, a charter member of the Sachse Historical Society, and a lifetime member of Sachse Christian Church.

Joe J. Stone

(February 1, 1927 - August 24, 2009)

Joe Stone passed away on Monday, August 24, 2009 after a battle with cancer.  Joe was a great grandson of Daniel Herring, a contemporary and neighbor of William Sachse.  Daniel, born in 1812, married Elizabeth Newman (second wife) in 1858.  They had eight  

children, and Dora Ann Herring was their fourth child. Dora Ann married Robert Clifton Stone, and their first child was Josiah “Joe” Stone. Josiah married Lena Judd Johnston, and their first child was our Joe: Joe Johnston Stone.

Joe was a charter member of the Sachse Historical Society and has been Treasurer since its inception. Joe Stone worked tirelessly for the Sachse Historical Society and the entire community of Sachse.  In 2008 Joe was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Sachse Chamber of Commerce.

Joe's wife of 51 years, Patricia Dallas Stone, passed away December 13, 2009.

Helen Davis Ledbetter

(1920 - 2009)

Helen Ledbetter passed away on February 21, 2009. Helen was born May 31, 1920, and was married to J.C. Ledbetter for 68 years. Helen was a lifetime member of the Sachse Christian Church, and a treasured member of the community. Helen was a great-granddaughter of William Sachse. William and Martha Sachse had fourteen children, one of whom was Missouri Ann.

Missouri Ann married William Worley Ingram, and they had several children. One of them was Ada Pearl (Ingram), who married Cleveland Davis. These were the parents of Helen Davis.

Helen was a member of the Sachse Historical Society and served on the Board of Directors. She was a gracious lady, and a joy to be with. Helen had wonderful memories of the earlier days in our community, and will be greatly missed.

Annie Laura Barger Skinner

(1910-2006)

Annie Skinner, born May 24, 1910, passed away on December 3, 2006 at a Rowlett nursing home. She was a great-granddaughter of William Sachse. Her mother was Arizona Elizabeth Sachse, who was a daughter of James Alfred and Laura Sachse. James Alfred was the first son of William and Elizabeth McCullough.

Annie Laura Barger married John Lafayette Skinner on October 28, 1933. They had an infant son born on November 26, 1934 and he died on November 28, 1934.

Devon Reed, Sr.

(1926 - 2006)

Devon Reed passed away October 14, 2006. Devon and his wife, Naomi, moved from Dallas to Sachse in 1967 where they resided until 1999, when they relocated to Garland.

Devon was actively involved in the community, including a charter member of the Sachse Lion's Club, a volunteer for 21 years with the Sachse Fire Department, and a dedicated member of the Sachse Historical Society. He was employed by Sears for 41 years, a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, and a veteran of the United States Navy. He is survived by his wife, Naomi, daughter Glenda Rae Terry and her husband Steven, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth Axe

(1922-2006)

Elizabeth Axe passed away on February 15, 2006, in Garland, Texas. Mrs. Axe was a great-granddaughter of William Sachse, granddaughter of Alabama Sachse Brand and A. R. Brand, daughter of Leola Brand Harrison and John Wylie Harrison. Mrs. Axe was a lifelong and active member of First Christian Church, a fifty-year member of Easter Star, and active in the Christian Woman's Fellowship.

Mrs. Axe grew up on Brand Road with three brothers and a sister. She was interred in the Sachse Cemetery.

Freda Joyce Herring

(1938 - 2005)

Freda Joyce Herring passed away December 8, 2005. She was a great-great granddaughter of William Sachse, a granddaughter of Arizona Ingram, and a daughter of Luther and Gladys Yarbrough Bailey. As a child, she attend Sachse Christian Church. She grew up on Bailey Road, and played under the huge oak tree from which a section has been preserved and is on display at the Sachse Historical Museum.  Frieda moved to Rockwall and was senior clerk for the Rockwall District Clerk's Office. She is survived by her husband, two sons, a daughter, three sisters, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Nada.

Nada Bailey Davis

(1932 - 2005)

Nada Bailey Davis passed away on June 30, 2005. Mrs. Davis was born January 22, 1932 in Sachse. She was a great-great-granddaughter of William Sachse. She grew up on Bailey Road and Miles Road, and shared a lively childhood with five sisters.

As part of the Sachse tradition, Mrs. Davis contributed a great deal to her community; for example, Mrs. Davis and her husband, Bill Davis, were instrumental in bringing Little League baseball to Salmon Park. She was lifetime member of the Sachse Christian Church, a longtime member of the Sachse Historical Society, a volunteer for the Sachse Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Sachse Senior Group. Mrs. Davis is survived by her sisters, her three sons, and six grandchildren. Nada was dearly loved and is greatly missed.

Mollie Brand Grissom

(1913-2005)


Mollie Brand Grissom, the last surviving grandchild of William Sachse, passed away on February 12, 2005; her funeral was February 15, 2005. Of the fourteen children of William Sachse, ten lived to adulthood and five spent their entire lives in the Sachse area: William Alfred, J.K., Jasper Newton, Missouri Ann, and Elizabeth Alabama. Elizabeth Alabama, Molly's mother, was William's youngest daughter.

Mollie was born on October 20, 1913, to Alabama and her husband, Albert Rosco Brand, and she had eleven brothers and sisters. She was married almost fifty years to Jack K. Grissom, who died in 1981, and the Sachse legacy continues through her daughter and son-inlaw, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Mollie Grissom was actively involved in community life. She worked at Southern Aircraft during World War II, then at Tiche's Department store, and Republic Bank in Garland. She was a lifelong member ofthe First Christian Church, and was also a member ofthe Ruth Mix Sunday school class, Garland Book Club, DWF Group, Mes Amies, and Daughters of the Republic of Texas.


Memoriams are for direct descendants of William Sachse, Daniel Herring or members of the Sachse Historical Society.
