Museum Collection Guidelines
The Sachse Historical Society Board of Directors is working very hard to keep
our museum something to be proud of. Many people have generously donated objects and collectible items for the museum, and funds that keep it going. It is a very small building, however, and in the interest of keeping the collection relevant and refined, collection guidelines have been developed.
These guidelines will help us determine which things offered to accept and which
to decline. They will expand the value of the collection in a predetermined way, and will help us pinpoint which areas we need to actively expand.
For your reference, and future donations, an abbreviated form of the guidelines is
reprinted here. You may read the full Collection Plan at the museum, or by contacting any board member. If you would like to discuss them or make recommendations, your input is welcome, for the guidelines are amendable and flexible.
1. The target areas of the museum will be defined as follows:
Pre - 1854 Interpretation
1854 - 1987 Collection of objects in the museum, plus interpretation
Post -- 1987 Interpretation
2. Criteria for acquisition and retention of objects include:
Connection to Sachse or the community or state
Potential for interpretive use (or "representative")
Related to people, places, or events in Sachse's past
Related to current collection
Related to other state or regional collections
