2006 Annual

Sachse Historical Society Meeting

Sunday, March 19, 2006

After everyone weather the storm and made it to the meeting, President Jeff Haupt calls the meeting to order. Pastor Hal Hinckley of the Sachse Christian Church gave invocation.

Treasurer Joe Stone presented the treasurer's report for the 2005 year.

Jeff Haupt, 2005 Sachse Historical Society President, welcomes Karen Reed on board as the 2006 President. After being elected as president four years in a row, Jeff decided to step down this year and allow someone else to take the reigns into the 2006-year. “I am not going anywhere, I will still be on the board of directors as the Vice President, I just thought it was time to allow someone else to step up and take over”, he said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my four years as president and I can’t wait to see what the new president has in store for the Historical Society”, he said.

The 2006 Guest Speaker was Sachse Police Chief Richard Benedict. He enlightened us with stories about the Sachse Police Department from 1986 until the present. The recently renovated building for the New Sachse Museum was used as the police station and the water department until 1992.

This year's fundraiser at the annual meeting was an auction of an original brick from William Sachse's second home that was once located in the 5900 block of Floyd Street in Sachse.

AND THE WINNER IS! Dorothy Sachse Nixon who came all the way from Arkansas to bless us with her presence and who is a  granddaughter of Jasper Newton Sachse (William Sachse's son). Dorothy was on a roll to grab a piece of her legacy by placing the highest bid at $100.

The meeting ended with the announcement that the American National Bank honored their 2006 corporate sponsorship by donating a check in the amount of $2500. Anita Collins was not on hand to present the check, but had it delivered. Holding the check from left: President Karen Reed, Treasurer Joe Stone and Vice President Jeff Haupt.
